Bekkah:

Jeff Goldblum dropping an n-bomb in the final act really kinda soured this movie, written and produced by white men, but directed by a Black man. I mean, I wasn’t enamored with this movie to begin with. It was fine. It’s a movie. Jeff was bad, but wore a good deep V. Laurence Fishburne was more handsome than I remembered! There were drugs. Lots of people died. The plot was… a plot… that I did not follow. My takeaway is that ACAB and also maybe don’t sell cocaine in the 90s (or now?).

Danya:

This was a real movie! Not a law and order episode, so that was refreshing. This movie was about the thin line between being a cop and being a bad person, or the fact that there is no line at all. Jeff was very goofy and very much himself, but as a drug dealer. The psychology of Laurence Fishburne being like “I’m a cop! now I want money and violence! oh wait, I’m a cop again!, but still with the money and violence” was compelling. Morpheus and his love-interest have lots of weird intense interactions where neither of them have any facial expression at all. I guess that’s sexy? The 90s were weird and intense and so was this movie.

5/10 Copblums
