Raines (2007) “Reconstructing Alice” Episode 3

Bekkah:

This episode was about a murdered woman experiencing homelessness in 2007, so you know that the show was going to treat her with a lot of respect! Oh wait, no. Raines (Jeff) hallucinates/imagines dead people to help him solve crimes. But this is not sci-fi, they are not real. So whatever they are saying he is imagining/projecting onto them, which means that whatever the dead person says is what Raines (Jeff) thinks. I don’t really like the way he imagines the inner thoughts of the ever-great Laurie Metcalf, but I guess it helps him solve crimes, so that’s cool. Raines’ (Jeff’s) normie hair is really throwing me off. You can see the inner Jeff creep out in his swagger-y walk and darty eyes, but he is norm-coring really hard for this show. Let your freak flag fly, Jeff! This show was also very much about STONKS and this was a week that STONKS were very important. I don’t understand STONKS, but we do manage to pick some timely shows! Eat the rich.

Danya:

So today I am 3 hours and counting out from my first dose of the COVID vaccine and feeling pleasantly drunk on margaritas, so take this whole review with a rim of salt as EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OK. This episode had two dogs, and the plot involved weird insider trading tidbits (hello gamestop!) so a lot to keep your interest. Laurie Metcalf was charming despite bad wigs. Jeff’s character wonders if he is “crazy” and has a very pretty therapist-lady to help him figure it out. When they sleep together in episode 7 I’m going to be very upset. Generally, this show has a very 2007 Law and Order but trying to be darker vibe. I think maybe it’s hard to to truly buy that Jeff is haunted by these brooding psychological demons, even when he is trying to hide his sparkle beneath a normcore haircut. Still, the world is beautiful and humanity has conquered disease, so this was a great way to spend some time.

6/10 Globdums
