Miyubi! (2017)
Bekkah:
This was like, an interesting idea? It’s a VR movie, but we don’t have VR headsets and it’s not really available anywhere. But thanks to ✨the internet✨ we found a streamer’s version of it on YouTube. Thanks Elfypants! This was sorta cute but also weird? The life of a kinda crappy robot (named Myuibi) in 80s suburbia. The kids were all pretty annoying, but also probably pretty realistic? I felt like this whole movie felt realistic, in that it felt chaotic and mostly unscripted and everyone was awkward. Jeff was the sweet Creator (of Miyubi) who just wants his baby to succeed. We probably missed an extra scene, maybe with Jeff? But this was definitely an interesting one!
Danya:
What a thing to be watching as we watch our govt collapse around us. How quaint and sweet a family from 1980s Canada seems, even as they squabble and ignore their grandfather with PTSD and incipient dementia. This is about families discarding each other, and the universality of the temporary nature of joy. It is all fleeting.
Jeff is charming and I want him to talk to me directly through my VR headset every day.
