Powder (1995)
Bekkah:
This movie would have been very ~*deep*~ if I had seen it in high school. It’s definitely a movie for high school weirdos. Are high school students really this shitty? Did I just go to a nice high school that wasn’t really full of weird-ass people? I was definitely Not Cool and I’m sure some people got picked on, but I really think it’s not so bad (maybe middle school is another story).
Danya:
When I saw this movie as a teenager, I was totally enthralled. Don’t all teenagers secretly wish they had magic powers? That their awkwardness, their oddness, is just proof of something undeniably special? I wanted magic. With some notable exceptions, most people in this movie are kind and well-intentioned, which helps right now. Powder himself has beautiful bone structure. I don’t get his choice at the end, but maybe he was just too beautiful for this world? Again, unassuming geniuses are knock my socks off. It’s a fable and a fairytale, but one that as a high school weirdo, I believed in. Jeff keeps his shirt on the whole time.
