Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)
Bekkah:
America sure has some independence, I guess. This was a movie! It was not great, it was not terrible. I don’t hate it, but I didn’t care enough to learn literally anyone’s name, even though I was watching it on Amazon, which lets you see all the characters names at any moment. 10 points for Jeff’s silverdaddy hair and always on-point glasses. 0 points for women being props. Did Will Smith make a good choice doing Suicide Squad over this movie? I dunno, I have not seen that one. But probably yes. I knew Suicide Squad was a movie, but didn’t really know about this one until last week when we were googling how to watch the original Independence Day. Anyway, this movie still had better presidents than we have now.
Danya:
I just like, wanted more. We couldn’t even remember anyone’s name because the characters were all just flat, except the ones that were barely this side of an antisemitic trope (looking at you, guy in glasses). In the theater the fighting scenes would have popped, and I have to admit, CGI technology has come a long way in 20 years. But flashy graphics and sparkly spaceships didn’t make up for the rest of the dullness. Not a terrible movie, but just an eh movie. I would def rewatch it again at a drive-in, but not if there were other options.
5/10 Goldblums
