“Cosmetics” (2020) World According to Jeff S1E10

Bekkah:

I feel like so many of the recent Jeff’s World episodes were really male-heavy and really white. It was great to see more representation in this episode, but a liiiiittle sad that it took an episode about makeup to get back to a more diverse set of players. That being said, this was really fun! Jeff explored a makeup convention, gave some serious bi vibes on a swing, chatted with drag queens, and had an incredible artist give him two extra creepy eyes. Jeff started off the episode being very anti-makeup (and maybe a twinge sexist about it?), despite having his own makeup artist (!), but by the end, I think he actually learned a lot and had fun and make is more pro-makeup than he realized? I am constantly impressed by people’s makeup skills, but I’ve never had the motivation to learn and it is probably too late now!

Danya:

I, like probably most women who grew up in America, have strong mixed-up feminist feelings about make up. I’m glad to know that Jeff does, too! The best episodes are the ones where he has to do a deep dive into something he actually knows nothing about (see Coffee). The make up was gorgeous, and I learned that drag stands for (DRessed As a Girl). There was a lost opportunity to see Jeff in drag, because he would have been beautiful. Could have used more feminism and history of male gaze, and less make up from a male gaze (not that it wasn’t beautiful, but still).

8/10 Goldblushes
