Jurassic Park Triple Feature: One Year of JGMC
Bekkah:
What were we supposed to do to celebrate(???) one year of Jeff Goldblum Movie Club (and also the pandemic) other than do a triple header of the best ever Jeff movie plus its two sequels? Anyway, we watched all three of the original Jurassic Parks. Yes, I cried in Jurassic Park I when Alan and Ellie see the dinosaurs for the first time. IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL, OKAY? The Lost World continues to disappoint, if only because of it’s totally unnecessary third act. I’m sure I wrote about this before. Jurassic Park III is the one where they make the MOST wrong decisions. In a trilogy of bad decisions, movie #3 has the worst, but it’s still better then #2 because it ends when they leave the island (along with the pterosaurs). Also, I feel like I probably need a Jurassic Park tattoo, so I’ll add that to the list of things to do post pandemic. Currently in the running: “Dinosaurs kill man, woman inherits the Earth” and “We can discuss sexism in survival situations when I get back.” Dr. Ellie Sattler is my hero!
Danya:
Watching the first three Jurassic Park movies while drinking Jeff Goldblum beer was really the only way to cap this year. Bekkah and I did this triple features probably a decade ago, and this time around I appreciated it more. The original is actually a really good movie! Like a film . I’ll stand by that. It is peak Jeff hair, all luxury, swagger. The second one is just a disaster of plot and exploded masculinity. Let’s talk about sexism in survivor situations, shall we. IF YOU SEE A DINOSAUR BABY LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE. Do not perform veterinary care, do not snuggle it. This also goes for dino eggs. They are not yours. There have been a lot of comparisons to Jurassic Park during the pandemic. and yes, it is easier to believe that the capitalistic goons reopen Jurassic Park in 2021 than in 2019. Hey, it’s ok for people to die, as long as businesses are open! Here’s to next year, a year probably still filled with masks, and Jeff, but maybe more hugs.
10/10 Velociraptors
The plot summary for all three movies:
People making poor decisions involving dinosaurs. Again. and Again.
