Raines (2007) “Inner Child” & “Closure”

Bekkah:

I drank 1.25 bottles of wine tonight, so please consider that when reading this review. This show was canceled after 7 episodes and I feel like that was probably 4 episodes too late. Jeff’s silver foxiness and darting eyes could not save this emotionless, male-gazey show. Like, literally no one had a personality ever in these 7 episodes. In episode 6, there is some pretty graphic language used to describe the sexual assault on a child and it just feels gross and savior-y. (Side note: I know I contribute to the demand for this, but stop casting children in things where they have to describe horrible things, ok?) Episode 7 features the death-by-plane-crash of Jeff’s/Raines’ ex wife’s (aka Libby from Lost) new husband and that whole plotline is a mess. Why would they assign him to that case? So he can save his ex-wife? What the eff. We thought this show might have been a casualty of the 2007-08 writer’s strike, but after checking the dates, nope, this show created its own garbage just fine without any outside influence. But hey! We made it through a whole season/show and now we never have to watch it again.

Danya:

I see why this show got canceled.
