The Prince of Egypt (1998)

Bekkah:

THIS is a much better children’s movie for adults. Decent animation, some solid songs, a closer by Whitney & Mariah, weird religious shit, and some good-old-fashioned sex trafficking. Wait, what? Don’t worry, Moses ends up marrying the woman they stole for him, so… I guess that’s nice? (It’s not.) Jeff was underutilized as Moses’ brother Aaron. He really should have been the Voice of God instead of Val Kilmer? What? This movie was pretty white despite being set in Africa, so that is messed up. At least Jeff is Jewish! Overall, I liked it, despite some weirdness!

Danya:

I’m not afraid to say it. Moses was a dick. Like, yeah I get that the whole thing is his redemption arc, but he just sucks so much at the beginning it is hard to buy. Animation is lovely and I appreciate the extra layers of brotherly conflict. Jeff, as Aaron, sounds like he is distractingly ordering starbucks whenever he talks. So I guess that’s acting? It’s hard to tell but I did actually like this movie. Except for the sex trafficking. Down with that.
