Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2010) S9E1 & S9E2 “Loyalty”

Bekkah:

I feel like I really give away how old I am with my use of ellipses, but… This two-parter was… something. For the whole first episode, I kept saying that this was the origin story for The Punisher as Vincent D'Onofrio got angrier and angrier and punishier and punishier, AND THEN AT THE END, they let him go. So he could go on to star in Netflix’s The Punisher and Daredevil. Just saying. I called it. On cop shows, bad cops always lose their jobs because otherwise, we’d think cops could get away with being bad! (Ummmm) Anyway, this story was NOT what I was expecting from a Law & Order! This was not quite so formulaic. What even is the Law & Order franchise after like ten thousand episodes? Jeff, per usual, comes to be the voice of reason/solve the problems. His hair is longer, but his eyes still twitch and even with his badge flashing, he is a dreamboat.

Danya:

Law & Order offers a very cookie-cutter uncomplicated view of the world. Good guys are bland, but good. Bad guys are so bad (and also much more exciting). In 2021 at the tail of the pandemic, that predictability is soothing. So soothing, however, that I don’t remember anything from these episodes except the general impression that if you cared about law and order or these characters at all, these happenings would be a big deal. Characters die! And turn all dark and twisty! But don’t worry, everyone gets what they deserve. Thanks for the just world fallacy and the attractive guest stars, L&O!
