“Kimmy Meets a Celebrity” (2016) S2E11

Bekkah:

This show is bad. I started watching it when it came out and I made it 5 episodes before the racism, fat jokes, and sexism just turned me off. I did not make it to episode 11 with Jeff! And I feel like this was totally the right call. This show is bad (again). But Jeff was a delight. I mean he was a horrible therapist but he was just so Jeff that I loved him. All 4 Goldschmidts are for Jeff. Maybe a little schmidt for Titus(s). Jeff being a weird therapist (Dr. Dave) who was “helping” an orca trainer who was eaten and pooped out by a killer whale is the kind of humor I am here for. The repeated jokes about Kate Winslet being fat, not so much. Luckily, this episode has minimal racism! But most of the jokes just fell flat anyway. I would 100% watch Dr. Dave’s TV show. Make that happen, Netflix!

Danya:

I remember that I used to watch this show, but then I stopped because the native american satire stuff was just…icky? And even though this particular episode didn’t have that, it still was abrasive as all fuck. Everyone is impossibly shrill, except for Jeff, who is hilarious. I do love that therapy is normalized (sorta?) but generally this episode did keep my interest and was brightly colored, so that’s actually better than most of what Jeff did in the 70s. But I’m just not on board the Fey train.

4/10 Goldschmidts
