The Switch (2010)

Bekkah:

Serious question: Does Jason Bateman have range beyond Michael Bluth? Because I really felt like this movie was an extended epsiode of Arrested Development, but like, not quite as good. There was also that one guy, who is in a bunch of things, whose name I will never remember, but he is super hot, and he was supposed to be Jennifer Aniston’s sperm donor, but Michael Bluth got wasted and dumped out his sperm and replaced it with his own. This is what I’m talking about when I am saying this reminds me of Arrested Development. Jeff was well cast as a slimy Wall Street boss, though he had a shitty wig in the first act (set in flip-phone circa 2003), who got to show off his ivory keys skills in the last scene. We did get one deeper-than-nipple-V, plenty of darty eyes, and one “golly,” so while I always wish there was #MoreJeff, this was pretty good.

Danya:

So we’ve seen a lot of Jeff movies, some of which were the Worst Movie Ever (looking at you The Mountain), but even the Mountain didn’t have the incredibly uncomfortable moment of (spoiler?) impregnating someone against her will. Maybe it’s because Roe is in jeopardy (hello from the tail end of 2021), but YECH. Jason Bateman’s character is legit a bad person, and I say that as someone who is anxious. You can be anxious and neurotic and not treat others terribly! The only good person in the entire movie is the tiny weird kid who is very into saving dogs at the shelter. I guess the other good part is Jeff in a deep V. This was based on a short story by Jeff Euginides (Virgin Suicides, Middlesex) and the movie itself was much better written than the other recent misogynist pregnancy slop (9 months), so come for that at least.
